Symphonia was created in 1994 on the initiative of Angelo Abbondio, one of Italy’s most influential fund managers.
Since then, the structure has undergone constant growth and development, adapting to shifting scenarios and new opportunities offered by the markets: in 1995, Symphonia Sicav was added alongside Symphonia SIM, followed in 1998 by CDO Fondo Pensione (which in 2006 was merged into BIM Vita, the BIM Group's insurance company). In 1999, Symphonia SIM became Symphonia SGR. In 2001, the product line was expanded to include the seven sub-funds of Symphonia Multi Sicav. In August 2003, 100% of the company was acquired by Banca Intermobiliare, an independent bank specialising in private banking, which was founded in 1981 in Turin and has been listed on Borsa Italiana since 1991.
Lastly, on 1 January 2008, the merger of the investment management companies of the BIM Group, Symphonia SGR and BIM SGR, entered into effect, resulting in the creation of a single separate, independent company.
